AREDS2 Explained
AREDS2 is a specific research program and formula—not a generic synonym for “eye vitamins.”
The studied formula
| Nutrient | AREDS2 amount |
|---|---|
| Vitamin C | 500 mg |
| Vitamin E | 400 IU |
| Copper | 2 mg |
| Zinc | 80 mg |
| Lutein | 10 mg |
| Zeaxanthin | 2 mg |
Who was studied?
AREDS2 enrolled people with intermediate AMD in both eyes, or intermediate AMD in one eye and advanced AMD in the other. It excluded people without AMD and people with early AMD because earlier AREDS data had not shown benefit for those groups.
If you have AMD or another eye condition, ask an eye-care professional whether any supplement is appropriate for you.
